The Washington Post published a document that appears to be a draft of an executive order from President Donald Trump this past Friday. The goal of the EC is to review the nation’s cybersecurity.
The report, which can be read in full here, assigns a team to be led by the Secretary of Defense with the Department of Homeland Security and National Intelligence heads to create a report outlining the following:
- A review of the cybersecurity of critical infrastructure
- A report on the country’s main cyber adversaries
- A review of capabilities and readiness
- Incentives for better cybersecurity in the private sector
One cybersecurity expert criticized the anticipated executive order as assessing things that are already known and expressed a desire for the President to follow the recommendations of the Commission on Cybersecurity and take action, such as putting aside federal IT money for cybersecurity and appointing a cybersecurity ambassador.
