I know you are all aware of what I’m about to tell you, but just in case you momentarily forgot, I’m going to refresh your memory… Every year, Microsoft stops supporting select versions of its software. What this means is that they discontinue any sort of security updates or patches.
What does this mean for YOU?
It means that if you use this software in your medical office, you will need to stop, or you will no longer be in compliance with HIPAA, according to HIPAA Security Rule 45 C.F.R. § 164.308 (a)(5)(ii)(B), which states that businesses must properly detect and guard against malicious software. Once a program ceases to actively update their software, that software is no longer considered HIPAA compliant.
And nobody wants that… so let’s get to it, shall we? Starting with today…
